Peninsula Yacht Club Wedding

Bridal party in beautiful blue dress captured at Peninsula Yacht Club Wedding

Katie and Ian were married at the Peninsula Yacht Club with an outside ceremony and a reception under the tent.  They chose tan, blue, and greenery as their colors.  Katie’s parents are members of the Peninsula Yacht Club and live around the corner.

Kate and I have known each other since college.  She is a few years younger than me but we were in the same sorority – go Chi O!  Actually, Katie was the first person I ever did anything with flowers with – she helped me put lemons and limes into vases for House Tours during Rush Week at N C State.  We have come full circle with me doing the flowers for her wedding 🙂  Ian is actually from Currituck, North Carolina, out very close to where I grew up in Elizabeth City.  His older sister knew a few of the same people I did from high school!

Katie’s bouquet was one of my favorite bouquets I have ever made.  She wanted lots of anemones in it because she loves this flower, and we added lots of garden roses and greenery.  Ian didn’t want to be left out and wanted an anemone for his boutonniere too!  I actually made him two for the wedding for two reasons.  One, in case the first one broke.  Anemones are very delicate flowers.  And two, because anemones are tubular, they need lots of water, something boutonnieres don’t have access to.   We switched to the backup right before the ceremony.

Katie had a farm table head table with a greenery runner.  Ian actually made the wooden ceremony backdrop and it looked great!  We worked on their design for almost a year, and I think we hit their vision perfectly!  Katie wanted a very natural and easy theme, but without any touches of nautical.  We chose bridesmaids dresses in a blue color, but that was it.  Neutrals and greenery ruled the rest of the design.  They had a cake from Publix and the wedding guests couldn’t get enough of it – in a good way!  Katie and Ian were on the dance floor dancing all night to Punch!  All of their guests had a great time and the dance floor was packed – just how you want a wedding to be!
