Although it is the daughter’s wedding day, it is important that the mother of the bride looks and feels beautiful as well! This is her moment too after all! And while there are so many beautiful dresses out there to try, there are a few etiquette standards and tips we have to share with you to make sure the mother of the bride is complimenting the bride 😉

Consult with the Bride

The mother of the bride should compliment and coordinate with the bride and the bridesmaids. Outshining or overdoing it aren’t appropriate, but you do want to stand out as an important figure at the wedding. Check with the bride and ask her preferences. Consider going shopping together; if the bride and mother of the bride are happy with the dress choice- you’ve got a good thing going!

Function over Fashion

When it comes to a long wedding day, no one wants to be uncomfortable- tugging, pulling, and sucking it in. There are so many beautiful options out there, so pick something that you can sit, stand, bend over, and move around in comfortably. You won’t regret it!

Coordinate with the Bridal Party

If the bride prefers, the mother of the bride can wear the same color as the bridesmaids. There are several designers who have a bridesmaid and mother of the bride collection. Another option is to wear a color that compliments the bridesmaid dresses. Obviously- no clashing!

Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom

The standard is that the mother of the groom would follow the lead of the mother of the bride in terms of dress style and length. Having the same length of dress can help make the family pictures look better. It is important that the formality of both the dresses coordinate as well.

Keep it Classy and Tasteful

When it comes to accessories and bling, it is better to keep it simple. A little shine never hurts, but it is best to err on the side of caution. It is the bride’s time to shine and sparkle!
